
A critical component of the Mayor’s Youth Program is the comprehensive Internship Program, which has a direct impact on the students as they transition from high school into the “real world.” This internship program is designed to provide practical and invaluable work experience to talented youth by exposing them to the business world. This is also the first city sponsored internship program, which boasts a strong partnership with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Business community.
The Cadet program allows Atlanta Public School seniors to participate in Police Cadet training or Fire Cadet training with the City of Atlanta. Students learn skills such as fire suppression, emergency medical assistance, fire & life safety education, social development, communications and leadership skills through participation in both hands on and academic instructional activities. Candidates are required to have an interest in becoming a Police Officer or Firefighter, be in good standing as a high school senior, qualify for early dismissal program, have letter of recommendation from his/her school, maintain drug and alcohol free, and adhere to Police and fire department rules and regulations.

The Oracle program teaches students the 1st half of a nationally recognized certification course on the Oracle Database Management System. Participating students have a strong interest and aptitude for computer programming and are in preparation for majors related to Computer Information Technology. Classroom and online instruction are combined to facilitate the 9 week course. The class is from 9am to 1pm, Monday through Friday and each student receives $100 per week stipend for their attendance.
ARTSCooL is an arts-based employment program through the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs providing arts instruction and job training to Atlanta area high school students.
The Mastering College Writing course teaches students advanced writing skills to prepare them for the challenges of college writing at Ivy League institutions.
