Vonetta Towns
In the beginning Vonetta Towns was an undecided teen from North Atlanta High School, not sure of what she wanted to do after graduation. After being challenged by a teacher during a college prep tour, Vonetta realized that she needed to make hard decisions and she needed to make them immediately.
It was the realization that opportunities are rare, that motivated Ms. Towns.
Vonetta grew up in a single parent home, and is the youngest of three. She will also be the last to graduate from college. While following the footsteps of her sisters, and remembering those negative comments, Vonetta became enthused. She decided to go off to Albany State University; her area of study, Education. The young scholar explains that she decided to major in education not only to teach, but to also give encouragement, and be that inspiration to her students in their moments of adversity.
At Albany State Vonetta is a part of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, Habitat for Humanity, the NAACP, and she is the Chair person of the Education Committee. Not to mention her soaring GPA of 3.1. She says, "It was a struggle at times, but I can do all things through Christ…Look at me now, I did it."
Vonetta graduates from Albany State University in the December of 2010. She thanks her family, her friends, and the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency for everything they've done, and for everything they will continue to do for her in the future. Vonetta Towns, on behalf of the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, Congratulations!
