Mayor’s Youth Program Student Honored with Nickelodeon HALO Award

MYP Student Darrius Snow accepts a check by Nick Cannon for HALO Award

ATLANTA, DECEMBER 1, 2009 - Darrius Snow a student in the Mayor’s Youth Program will be honored by Nickelodeon with a HALO Award. The TeenNick HALO Awards is a new one-hour special that recognizes and celebrates real teens who are agents of change in their communities, in the hopes of inspiring and motivating a new generation of leaders. HALO stands for “helping and leading others.” The TeenNick HALO Awards will include four unique stories that are deeply relevant and important to teens — each one showcasing an ordinary teen doing extraordinary things.

Snow is the first in his family to graduate high school and he is currently in his freshman year at Voorhees College. He was the President of BTEAM (Bankhead Teens Encouraging Action by Motivating others), a group of teens organized to transform their neighborhood from a drug and crime-infested one, to a positive environment where young people can be active and grow towards a brighter future. The show airs on TeenNick on December 11, 2009 at 8pm.
