The Mayor’s Youth Program and City of Atlanta Police Department are preparing high school seniors to become Atlanta Police Officers.

May 7, 2007

The Mayor's Youth Program, in partnership with the City of Atlanta Police Department, is preparing high school seniors to become Atlanta Police Officers after they graduate. The Police Cadet Program serves to strengthen the community by building strong relationships with interested youth, allowing them to develop into young professionals who are ready to join the department and provide an invaluable service to the citizens of Atlanta. Police Cadets begin the program just as adult recruits do, by participating in a PT test. The PT test involves a ½ mile run and an obstacle course where participants must drag a 125 pound dummy 25 miles and climb over a 6ft wall. During the course of their training, police cadets will perform this test four times.

Daniel Horne, a senior at Washington High School said "I am thinking about serving in the military and then becoming a policeman. This opportunity has given me an excellent perspective on the training that recruits receive."
