On July 27th, more than 1,000 high school students and returning college students completed internships at top Atlanta companies, organizations and government agencies through The Mayor’s Youth Program.
The Mayor’s Youth Program collaborated with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce to recruit companies, non-profit organizations and city agencies to provide the summer internships, which provided 35-40 hours of work per week and paid $8 to $12 per hour.
"The Mayor's Youth Summer Employment and Training Program is made possible by our corporate partners who contribute so generously to Atlanta's youth by offering summer internships that provide them with an opportunity to grow and gain experience in an array of industries," said Mayor Franklin. "As a result, students are better prepared for the next phase in their lives, whether it is the workforce, community college, or a four-year college or university."
Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Beverly Hall said internships offer students the real-world experience and career connections they need to succeed.
“Atlanta Public Schools has always been able to count on the strong support of the business community,” she added. “Business leaders continue to get engaged in real and tangible ways that make a difference. A good internship can literally change a student's life and encourage them to keep dreaming and keep achieving.”
“A lot of people our age don’t get the experience we have in building relationships and contacts in the business world. This program is invaluable,” said Martin.
