July 10, 2007

Michelle Fisher, a Mayor’s Youth Program participant, is currently interning in the Mayor’s office with the Department of International Affairs the Environmental Project Manager. Next summer she plans to travel to China for a summer and semester abroad. Michelle hopes to one day become the U.S. Ambassador to China.

"Being able to expand my connections by networking is one of the many yet valuable opportunities I will have working in the Mayor’s Office and I am excited to see where this leads me in the future," said Michelle.

Michelle is a 2006 graduate of Southside High School and has just completed her freshman year at Hamilton College in upstate New York. Through her participation in The Mayor’s Youth Program, she was awarded $1,250 to assist with her freshman year tuition costs. "It helped to limit the cost my parents had to pay. I told my mom that loans were for graduate school," said Michelle. Upon completing her first year at college, Michelle was awarded a full four year scholarship to continue at Hamilton College for the next three years. Michelle hopes to attend law school at Harvard upon completing her undergraduate work.
